Yesterday, I went into my yoga class with the excitement of being back in my routine! Sometimes life gets a busy, we get out of our routine. Or, our favorite teacher was out of the country!! Both of these things happened at once for me so going back to my saturday run followed by a strong yoga class was much needed and very welcomed!
In class the instructor said something so simple: “choose to lengthen your spine longer.”
CHOOSE
I started thinking about this. We go to the gym, or go to coffee or go (insert here). We chose to be there (even if feeling forced). We might as well make the most of this. When I teach clients I am hoping to help them push their bodies to progress them, change them, mold them. When I go to yoga or Pilates or for run I am choosing to be there and sometime my body doesn’t “feel” it. But, I’m there I should choose to push my body, mold my body, change my body.
I know some days your body wants rest, then do rest! But, choose to rest. Make the choice to rest.
Why must we choose? Well wether its choosing to rest or to workout the point is that you made a choice for you in that moment. You are present with your body and your bodies needs and goals.
In the book I am reading “bright side up” she talks about one time when she was deciding wether to go for a power walk or take a nap. She couldn’t decide then she thought about just watching TV. Ultimately she decided to go for the walk. She felt energized and alive afterwards. Why? She made the choice to walk and then she went for it. Keeping her mind and body involved in the choice she made.
When you go to the gym, group class, yoga or your Pilates session. High five yourself! You made a choice! Then, BE in your choice, focus on what is moving where and why?
When I was younger I had this saying on my wall “Bloom where you are Planted” It’s not always easy but things worth having usually never are.
